Sgt Graham Alan Rich GB
He had to land beacuse the aircraft had a problem in the fuel system.
The aircraft landed on its belly in an isolated area. To find help, the pilot had to walk for three hours before reaching a small settlement.
Accompanied by a Portuguese policeman, he crossed by boat to Aveiro.o. From the police station he called the air attaché from the British Embassy in Lisbon.
The following day he was transferred to Elvas along with other Allied airmen who had come down in Portugal. He remained interned in that border town until 21 June.
He arrived in Bristol, in the United Kingdom, on a BOAC aircraft, on 23 June.
The aircraft was equipped with photographic material to be used in reconnaissance by the Coastal Command.
