Thousands of Portuguese, Portuguese descendants or foreigners born in Portugal witnessed or participated in military operations during World War II, as part of regular or irregular forces of various belligerent countries.
Other Portuguese earned their living working in the merchant navies of the countries at war because living conditions in Portugal were very precarious. For the same reason, thousands of civilians also emigrated to these countries.
In this section of Portugal 1939-1945 we will develop the stories of these men and women.
