The Santos family - the couple Isidoro Oliveira, Maria Adelina and their son Manuel - lived in Soteville-lés-Rouen, in Rouen, and died during a bombing by RAF planes on the night of April 18th to 19th, 1944.
The attack, carried out by 273 Lancaster bombers, killed more than 550 civilians and injured another 1,800. The target was the railway complex in that area, one of the largest and most important in France.
The Allied bombing campaign that took place in the first half of 1944 intended to obstruct the mobility of the German troops during of the landing in Normandy that took place on June 6 of that year.
