Born on the Island of Faial, António first arrived in the state of California, United States in 1884, where he later met and married Marianna Medeiros, also originally from the Azores.

They had nine children and remained married until 1909, when Marianna died.

António Silveira was a farmer by profession, and was also a police officer for twenty-five years (sheriff in Santa Barbara County) and chief of the guard at Hancock Field air base until his retirement in 1946.

He died in the comfort of his home in May 1956.
