António Vicente was a crew member of the Greek ship Evanthia, sunk in the Mozambique Channel on November 28, 1942. In the following days he arrived at Sepúlveda beach, Mozambique, in one of the two lifeboats that landed there with 32 survivors.

Two days later, the castaways went from Vila João Belo to Lourenço Marques by train and a repatriation process begun, but in March 1943 there is still a newspaper record stating that this Portuguese was still in Mozambique.

The Evanthia was sunk at 10:50 pm on November 28, 1942 by U-181 who first torpedoed it and then hit it with more than a hundred cannon shots because the ship was still floating.
