José Pereira dos Penedos was arrested on November 23, 1944 by the Belgian authorities, accused of denouncing to the Germans a Belgian woman with whom he “had an altercation in 1941”.

Although the Military Auditor of Charleroi spoke out against the continuation of his detention, he remained in prison until insistent interventions of the Portuguese consulate managed to release him on July, 23 1945.
