John Latimer Atkinson was an Pilot Officer and observer with 169 Squadron, RAF Bomber Command, flying twin-engined Mosquito aircraft.
Shortly after 1pm on 13 February 1944, with pilot Peter Duncan Bowen at the controls, he took off from Little Snoring, Norfolk, for exercises and training. At 1.25pm the aircraft was practicing target practice over the sea when it crashed while making a tight turn.
He is buried in Cambridge City Cemetery.
