Celestino Xavier was a volunteer soldier in the "Hong Kong Volunteers Defense Corps in Hong Kong".

He was born on 26 April 1905 in Hong Kong, the son of the Portuguese José Xavier and Glafira Xavier.

After the Japanese conquest of Hong Kong, he was taken prisoner. After the war (1958) he emigrated to the United States, where he became a naturalized citizen.
