Information about the Antonis Georgandis is scarce, but in Yolanda Corsépios's Boock, "The War Wasn't There" - a portrait of her childhood as a German child in Horta, Azores, during World War II - she asserts that 22 of the ship's survivors were dropped off in Horta by an unidentified vessel sometime in June 1940.
No information could be found regarding the existence of other survivors or mortal victims.
The Antonis Georgandis was intercepted by U-101 northwest of Cape Finisterre on June 14, 1940.
The u-boat fired a torpedo but missed. When the greek crew spotted it passing the hull, they abandoned the ship before the Germans could conduct an inspection. They knew they were carrying cargo to England and would be accused transporting of contraband.
The submarine fired 91 shells to sink it.
