He had to land beacuse the aircraft had a problem in the fuel system.

After the landing the pilot looked for help and had to walk for three hours before finding a small village. There he met a Portuguese police officer that made the crossing with him to Aveiro. From the police station he called the air attaché from the British Embassy in Lisbon.

On the next day he was transferred to Elvas where he was interned until June, 21. He arrived in the UK in a BOAC plane.

The aircraft was equipped with photographic material to be used in reconnaissance by the Coastal Command.
