The Beaufighter was on patrol and became involved in a combat with a FW200 near Cape Sardão.

The RAF aircraft chased the German inland, near to the village of Longueira where they were hit and crashed. The pilot of the FW200 was Lt. Erich Stocker.

Both crew members died and are buried in the British Cemetery in Lisbon.
