The crew was on its way home and the same was happening to the airplane in order to be dismantled, but on the way they had engine problems and tried to reach Gibraltar.

As the problem increased they were forced to land in Quarteira, in the Algarve region.

The aircraft's name "Little Barneywas painted in the fuselage and it had served in 544 Squadron, 384 Bomb Group,  between November 3, 1943 and March 21, 1945.
