The aircraft - with the code F8+NT painted on the fuselage - was shot down by a Beaufighter from 248 Squadron crewed by Flight-Sargent McLeod and Sargent Inglis.

Although some locals tried to rescue the crew they all died. They were buried in the Aljezur cemetery with the the presence of Portuguese and Axis military and civil authorities.

Four Portuguese men received German commendations for their efforts while trying to save the crew after the crash or because they became involved in the funeral preparation.
